Role description:
Visitor Information Centre Tasks:

Providing Information: Answering visitor queries both in person and over the phone about local attractions, events, activities, transportation, accommodation, and other relevant information.

Customer Service: Offering a friendly and helpful service to customers, including the sale of souvenirs

Promoting the VIC: Actively promoting the VIC and its services to customers.

Simple Surveys: undertaking simple surveys in the VIC

Researching Information: Gathering information about local attractions, events, and other relevant resources.

Maintaining the Centre: Ensuring the VIC is tidy, well-organized, and welcoming.

Event Support Tasks:

Festival and Major Event Assistance: Helping with event setup and managing event flow.

Member Event Assistance: undertaking registration at member events and providing general information and signposting for participants.

Signposting Visitors: signposting visitors to activities and facilities during events and directing visitors to specific attractions.

Distribution of Materials: Distributing event programs, maps, and other relevant materials, in and around York City Centre.

Simple Surveys: Undertaking simple surveys, at events and festivals.

Crowd Control and Traffic Management: Assisting with managing crowds and traffic flow, particularly at busy events.

Health and Safety: Undertaking visual checks and identifying potential hazards which should be escalated to the Event Manager/Health and Safety Officer for them to action and rectify.

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Skills and Experience Required

Customer Service Skills: A friendly and helpful personality is essential.

Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers.

Knowledge of the Local Area: Familiarity with local attractions, events, and services.

Organisational Skills: Ability to keep track of event details and manage tasks effectively.

Enthusiasm: A willingness to share information and promote MIY and its services.

Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing event schedules and locations.
