We’re York Centre for Voluntary Service (known as York CVS), we’re an independent charity; supporting and championing York’s voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to make positive change.

We facilitate a centre that provides lots of different charities and voluntary organisations office spaces; a place to meet and work together with other organisations, or places to meet the people and communities they support in the centre of the city.

As a charity championing voluntary services, we’re looking for a volunteer to support our facilities team in keeping the site and grounds of the Priory Street Centre looking neat and tidy.

In this role you’ll meet people doing vital work to support the communities of York and those who depend on their services, so we need confident volunteers who can bring a bright, welcoming and supportive personality so everyone can feel at home at York CVS.

When are volunteers needed: The York CVS Reception Support Volunteer shifts are flexible and can fit around other work/ life commitments. We are ideally looking for volunteers who can work flexibly to fit in with the needs of York CVS and the core hours of our busy conference centre.

You do not require a DBS check or a driving license for this role but do need to be physical fit and able

Role description:
An Example Day in the Life of a Gardening Volunteer:

Please note, the hours and timings below are not fixed and are there to provide an example.

9:00am: You arrive at the centre, meet with the Facilities team, and discuss the day’s events and tasks.

9:10am: You water all the plants around the site, removing any leaves and pruning as necessary

9:45am: You gather the necessary tools you need from the maintenance store and tidy up the trees and plants in the courtyard

10.30am: Cup of tea!!

11am: You go over to the garden in number 17 and check on the veg plots

12pm: You reflect on the impact of your support across York as a volunteer at York CVS.

Tasks may include:
Watering plants
Pruning and deadheading
Sweeping
Planting and sowing seeds
Maintaining the garden equipment
General cleaning and tidying
Managing gardening stock levels

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:

You have an interest in the VCSE sector
You are confident, friendly and outgoing
You are fit and healthy to carry out gardening work
You a keen interested in gardening and garden development
You enjoy meeting new people
You want to contribute your time and enthusiasm by helping others
