Role description:
Trustees of Phoenix Under Fives Preschool are responsible for the strategic oversight and governance of the charity. As a trustee, you will help set the direction of the setting, ensure it operates in line with its charitable objectives, and hold the management to account for the quality of provision and the financial health of the organisation. Responsibilities include attending termly trustee meetings, reviewing finances and policies, supporting the Setting Manager with strategic decisions, and ensuring the charity meets its legal obligations to the Charity Commission and Ofsted. Trustees also have collective responsibility for safeguarding and for ensuring Phoenix continues to serve the children and families of the Groves community.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
We are looking for individuals who are reliable, community-minded, and willing to take on the legal responsibilities of a charity trustee. You do not need a background in early years education. Skills we particularly value include financial literacy or budgeting experience, HR or employment knowledge, fundraising or grant-writing experience, legal or governance knowledge, and community engagement or communications. All trustees must be willing to complete an enhanced DBS check and Ofsted suitability declaration (EY2 form) as required by law. Above all, we are looking for people who are committed to the wellbeing of young children and the long-term sustainability of Phoenix as a community asset.
