Role description:
We are looking for volunteers to assist us in delivering outreach sessions within the community. The role involves assisting people with queries such as accessing online services, learning how to download and use a new app and building their confidence in going online.
We also deliver a range of introductory digital skills workshops to small groups of people. This includes; teaching people how to use a digital device, such as a smartphone or laptop, or how to transfer photos from a mobile phone to an external device or digital drive. In addition to how to upload documents, set-up an email account or browse the web.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
To be competent in using:
A smartphone, laptop and computer.
Communication tools, setting up emails, sending messages and using video calling apps.
To have good interpersonal skills in dealing with a diverse range of people from all walks of life.
To be able to; demonstrate active listening and communicate clearly.
To be able to display understanding and empathy when dealing with vulnerable members of the community.
To demonstrate patience when assisting people who are new or inexperienced with technology.
To show an awareness and understanding of online safety.

They will be making a difference in bridging the digital divide, as well as improving people’s well-being.
They will develop their own troubleshooting and interpersonal skills, in addition to their employability and confidence.

Successful applicants will have an interview where they discuss their reasons for applying to be a volunteer and digital champion. They will be asked about their prior relevant professional or volunteering experience. Applicants will also be asked to explain their confidence in using digital technology and why the role of a digital champion is necessary in this day and age.
They will have to provide two professional references, complete a volunteer (free) DBS form, online safety and digital champion training.
