What is the Welcome for Newcomers Grant?
The Henry Smith Foundation’s Welcome for Newcomers Grant supports local organisations and partnerships across the UK that help newcomers rebuild their lives, feel at home and become active members of their local communities.
The fund supports work with refugees, people seeking asylum and other migrants, including people with no recourse to public funds.
Funding is flexible and designed to support the running costs of organisations and partnerships delivering long-term Welcome work.
Successful applicants should have ongoing access to safe physical spaces and a proven track record of providing support across three key areas:
Specialist support
Providing high-quality support either directly or through specialist providers, including:
- Immigration advice regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA)
- Support with rights and entitlements
- Help with destitution and housing issues
- Healthcare and therapeutic trauma support
- English language education
- Employment support
Enabling belonging
Supporting regular social contact, relationship building and connections between newcomer communities and other local residents.
Influencing work
Helping improve local conditions and create more welcoming communities for newcomers.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to charitable organisations registered and working in the UK, including:
- Registered charities
- Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs)
- Community Interest Companies (CICs) that are not-for-profit and have an asset lock
- Other not-for-profit charitable organisations delivering work aligned with the Foundation’s objectives
Applicants should have long-term access to safe physical spaces and demonstrate a proven track record of delivering comprehensive support for newcomers.
