We're looking for an Trainee Information & Advice Adviser to join our friendly and dedicated team, helping older people, their families and carers access the support, services and benefits they need.

About the Role
No two days are the same in this varied and rewarding position. You'll provide information, guidance and practical support to older people on a wide range of topics including welfare benefits, housing, community care, disability rights and local services.
Whether you're speaking to someone over the phone, online, in a community setting or in their own home, you'll be helping people understand their options and access the support they're entitled to.
You'll develop expertise in areas such as:
• Welfare benefits and benefit entitlement checks
• Completing and supporting benefit claims
• The Care Act and social care support
• Housing and disability-related support
• Signposting to appropriate local and national services
Full training will be provided, so we're looking for someone with the enthusiasm to learn and develop their knowledge.


What You'll Be Doing
• Providing information and advice to older people, their carers, and family members.
• Carrying out benefits checks and explaining entitlements clearly and accurately.
• Supporting clients to complete applications and claim forms.
• Maintaining accurate and detailed case records using our CharityLog database.
• Keeping up to date with local and national issues affecting older people.
• Working collaboratively with partner organisations and support services.
• Participating in peer reviews and quality assurance activities to maintain our Advice Quality Standard accreditation.
• Delivering outreach sessions and supporting people within local communities.


About You
You'll be someone who enjoys working with people and can communicate confidently and sensitively, even during difficult conversations.
We're particularly interested in candidates who have:
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• The ability to explain complex information in a clear and supportive way.
• A keen interest in welfare benefits and supporting people to access their entitlements.
• Experience using databases and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Strong attention to detail and good record-keeping skills.
• Resilience and the ability to support people facing challenging circumstances.
• Access to transport and the ability to travel across the City of York for home visits and outreach work.
Experience in welfare benefits adice is desirable, but we welcome applicants with a genuine interest in developing their expertise through training and support.
Please note:
• Lone working is a requirement of this role.
• The role involves a mixture of office-based, community and home-visiting work across York – you should be prepared to travel within York and surrounding areas.
