Volunteer Coordinator

About Community Furniture Stores

Community Furniture Stores is a grassroots charity which works to alleviate furniture and digital poverty in North Yorkshire. We have three stores in York, Scarborough and Selby which sell pre-loved and new furniture and household items at affordable rates to people in our local communities.

In each store, we provide volunteering opportunities for people to learn new skills, grow in confidence and be part of a team – with opportunities such as our Build to Thrive work experience programme particularly targeted at those who may face barriers to employment. In addition, we run an IT Reuse project to get equipment to people who would otherwise be digitally excluded.

About the Role

We are looking for someone to coordinate our Volunteering Programme across our three stores. Your role will be to recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers at CFS. You will be responsible for managing our database of volunteers, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on volunteer engagement, and communicating with volunteers. You will work closely with store staff to facilitate the day-to-day support of volunteers in store. You will work with a variety of community partners across North Yorkshire to coordinate volunteer referrals, and represent CFS in the voluntary and community sector. The role comes at an exciting time for CFS and is an opportunity to continue to develop our approach to volunteering through expanding opportunities, running events, and establishing partnerships across the sector, in order to make volunteering at CFS a good quality, accessible, and rewarding experience.

This is a permanent position which is currently funded by external grants.

• Design and deliver Volunteer Training to ensure volunteers are equipped and empowered for their volunteering responsibilities • Maintain our volunteer database and coordinate volunteer rotas across the three stores • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with volunteers and be the main point of contact for their welfare and wellbeing
