Role description:
Visual Design & Media Support for the British Origami Society Spring Convention

Location: York (near Bootham Bar)
Dates: As soon as possible – 20 April (with an option to continue afterwards if interested)
Time Commitment: Approximately 1-2 hours per week (more time may be needed early on for design work)

About the Role

The British Origami Society is preparing for its Spring Convention in York and is looking for a creative and organised volunteer to help design and promote the event. This role will support the convention by producing engaging visuals, liaising with the British Origami Society for approvals, and sharing updates with the local community and media.

The volunteer can also help with general event support, photography, and potentially assist with a small public origami exhibition around York.

Main Tasks

Design a set of visuals to promote the Spring Convention (posters, banners, and social media graphics).

Confirm final designs with the British Origami Society.

Contact and share visuals and press releases with local media outlets.

Take photos before, during, and after the event for social media and future promotion.

Assist with event set-up and tidying.

Support a potential community-based exhibition in York linked to the event.

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Skills Needed or to Develop

Graphic design and creativity – ability to create appealing, clear and informative visuals for use on fliers and online.

Communication and teamwork – liaising with organisers, the Society, and local media.

Organisation and time management – meeting design and publicity deadlines.

Photography and social media awareness – capturing moments and sharing updates effectively.

Community engagement – enthusiasm for promoting origami and public events.
