When are volunteers needed: When am I needed?
The shop is open Monday – Saturday 9am – 4:30pm and 10am – 4pm on a Sunday.
We offer three standard shifts each day:
- 8:45am – 12:15pm
- 11:00am – 2:00pm
- 1:00pm – 4:45pm
- Sunday 9:45am - 1pm
- Sunday 1pm - 4:15pm
We can also accommodate alternative shift times, provided these are at least 2 hours long. Weekly or fortnightly commitments are preferred.

Role description:
If you enjoy practical, hands-on work and being part of a friendly team, volunteering in our Clifton Moor Furniture Shop could be a great fit. From helping customers with furniture purchases to preparing donated items for sale, this is an active and varied role where you can use your skills, stay busy and make a real difference.
By joining us, you’ll help turn generous donations into vital funds for St Leonard’s Hospice, while supporting sustainable retail and serving your local community. As part of our wider retail network of 15 shops and a Donation Centre, the Furniture Shop plays an important role in raising both income and awareness for the Hospice.
What will I be doing?
Some examples of the types of things you could help with:
- Helping customers choose furniture that fits their home and needs
- Helping move and position furniture safely on the shop floor
- Preparing donated furniture for display and sale
- Serving customers on the till and creating a positive shop experience
- Keeping the shop clean, tidy and welcoming
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
What skills and qualities will I need?
- Positive attitude and ability to provide great customer service
- Full training will be provided so a willingness to learn new skills or bring your own skills and knowledge to the role
- Ability to work under the instruction of the manager and work as part of a team of volunteers
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
This is a physically active role and involves regular manual handling, including moving stock and pieces of furniture, so it may suit someone who enjoys being on the go and practical tasks.
This role may particularly suit someone with experience or interest in retail, customer service, warehouse work, deliveries, DIY, or practical hands-on tasks — but full training will be provided and we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds.
