Role description:
We are looking for a dedicated cook to provide delicious, warm meals for our Community Kitchen. The York Mosque Community Kitchen, which has been celebrated for its impactful work in the community (you can read more about our one-year anniversary in this York Press article here: https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/24615678.york-mosque-community-kitchen-celebrates-one-year-event/), is held every other Thursday. This initiative offers a safe and welcoming space for the local community to enjoy a hot meal. The cook will:
• Work with organisers to plan and agree on a menu suitable for attendees.
• Prepare ingredients and cook meals for approximately 100 people.
• Ensure meals are prepared on time and adhere to cultural and religious requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness and follow food hygiene standards in the kitchen.
• Collaborate with a team of volunteers to ensure smooth operations.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
• Food hygiene certificate (essential).
• Knowledge of cooking procedures and ability to manage timings effectively.
• Understanding of cultural and religious dietary requirements.
• Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
