Role description:
This is a unique opportunity to join the North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Panel as an independent co-opted member. You will be supporting councillors from across North Yorkshire and York to provide important scrutiny, governance and accountability for policing and fire and rescue services.
The role includes reviewing and making recommendations on the Mayor’s draft Police and Crime Plan and Fire and Rescue Plan, the proposed level of Council Tax, and appointments such as Chief Constable and Chief Fire Officer. Independent members bring a valuable external perspective, contributing strategic thinking, support and challenge.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
• Ability to think strategically and analytically
• Objectivity, sound judgment and independence of thought
• Strong communication skills to engage with councillors, partners and the public
• Commitment to supporting effective, efficient police and fire services
• Background in areas such as community safety, health, mental health, advocacy, business, finance or commissioning is welcome, but not essential
