Role description:
We are currently looking for a volunteer able to support our monthly LookOut! Sessions for 13 to 17 year olds.

These online sessions will take place in the afternoon of the second Tuesday of the month and are designed to provide visually impaired LGBTQ+ young people with a space where they can meet others like them. Please note that these sessions are NOT designed for mental health support, they just aim to promote a sense of community, be informative, social, and fun.

The role involves acting as a facilitator during sessions and some session preparation.

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Be confident in supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ young people
Have a good knowledge and understanding of issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community and have a positive scope on how to work around them or promote change.
Be willing to contribute to the development of session plans and, possibly, attend an in-person session a year.
Be happy to complete our volunteer training.
Be computer literate and familiar with MS Teams.
Have reliable access to internet and a computer
Previous working or life experience supporting LGBTQ+ groups or individuals is considered a bonus
An open and friendly nature
Adaptable and patient
Good communication skills
Confident approaching and talking to members of the public
A sense of humour

Training and start date to be agreed with The Wilberforce Trust. Please note that, as you will be working with vulnerable youngsters, an Enhanced DBS check will be required.
We anticipate that the DBS Certificate will take a few weeks to be processed, we expect to complete your online training while we wait for your DBS.
