Role description:
Move the Masses is on a mission to create healthy communities by empowering individuals to improve their well-being through exercise. As part of their impactful initiatives, the Move Mate – Walking Buddy program is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to make a difference in all areas of York.

This role is crucial with thirty individuals already awaiting volunteer support.

Move Mates are volunteers who provide companionship and assistance to individuals who may have difficulty going out on their own. They meet with the person at their front door and accompany them to their desired destination, which could be for a one-time activity or a regular weekly walk.

Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of one hour per week for three months.

As a Walking buddy, you'll be more than just a walking companion; you'll be a source of joy and empowerment for those you assist. Your role goes beyond a simple walk – it's about creating lasting connections and fostering a sense of community.

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Communication is key, as Walking buddy should be adept at engaging with individuals from
diverse backgrounds. Interpersonal skills are a must – your compassionate, friendly, and empathetic demeanor will make every walk memorable. With an awareness of mental health issues, you'll navigate encounters with sensitivity and understanding.
