Role description:
Role purpose
The Online Sales Volunteer supports the organisation by helping to manage and grow its online sales channels. Your contribution helps raise vital funds and increase the visibility of the organisation’s work.
Online sales volunteers identify and list items for sale on our new eBay site, researching values and presenting items for sale, with photographs and text.
Tasks and activities
• Look through the items kindly donated by our York residents to see what may be suitable for sale online.
• Research a wide range of items to understand its value.
• Use your creativity in presenting items to make appealing to potential buyers. This could be with photographing the products and providing information. about the product.
• Work alongside a small selection of staff and volunteers utilising collective skills to maximise the potential for sales online.
• Explore whether there are better options to sell specific items e.g. auction.
Product Listing
• Researching products and gathering data regarding price, condition, etc.
• Photograph items clearly and attractively for online listings.
• Write accurate and engaging product descriptions.
• Measure, price, and categorise donated goods correctly.
Order Processing
• Prepare sold items for dispatch (if applicable), including packing and labelling.
• Update listings when items are sold or are no longer available.
• Popping the items to the post office for delivery.
Stock & Administration
• Organise and track stock allocated for online sales.
• Assist with inventory records and basic data entry.
• Follow organisation guidelines for pricing, quality, and returns.
Other
• Suggest ideas for improving the online store or increasing engagement.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys e commerce, photography, researching products, or creating engaging listings. You may have an interest in online selling or a willingness to learn. Basic computer skills and internet confidence are essential. Volunteers will have good written communication skills, an attention to detail, and be reliable, organised and able to work independently. A friendly and positive attitude is essential.
