Role description:
York Centre for Voluntary Service (York CVS) is an independent charity supporting York’s voluntary, community, and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to make positive change. We also manage the Priory Street Centre, a shared space for charities and community groups to meet, collaborate, and deliver services.
This is a varied, flexible role supporting the Priory Street Centre team at York CVS. As a Priory Street Centre – Reception Volunteer, you will help provide a welcoming and well-run environment for everyone using our building, from local charities to community members. You’ll help with meet and greets, light reception duties, general admin and project-based tasks. It’s a great opportunity to get insight into a busy charity hub, build new skills, and contribute to work that supports many organisations across York.
Key Tasks:
- Welcoming visitors and providing a friendly first point of contact
- Support with lunch cover on reception by answering phones and welcoming walk-ins
- Answering general enquiries in person and by telephone
- Assist with tasks such as basic admin, research, postering and newsletter updates
- Supporting the smooth running of the reception area
- Help to maintain a warm, inclusive and welcoming environment
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
This role is ideal for someone who is:
- Friendly, confident, and enjoys working with people
- Organised and happy to help with a range of tasks
- Comfortable using basic IT [Microsoft outlook, email, internet, typing]
- Experience of working in a busy reception environment is desirable
- Interested in charities, volunteering, and community work
- Looking to give back, gain experience, or build new skills
