When are volunteers needed: When am I needed?
This is a flexible role that can be shared across volunteers.
- Shifts can be arranged at a time to suit you
- Weekly or fortnightly support preferred
Our sites are typically open:
- Monday to Saturday, 9am–4:30pm
- Our Clifton Moor site is open 7 days a week, 9am–4:30pm
We’ll work with you to find a location and schedule that fits around your other commitments.

Role description:
We are looking for a qualified and confident PAT tester to support our retail team by ensuring donated electrical items are safe for resale. This is a fantastic opportunity to use your practical skills to make a real difference, helping us raise vital funds to provide care for people with life-limiting illnesses.
Our retail network includes 15 shops and a busy Donation Centre across the local area. Together, they play a crucial role in generating vital income for the Hospice and being the face of the Hospice in the community.
What will I be doing?
You’ll use your expertise to:
- Carry out PAT testing on donated electrical items
- Ensure all items are safe and suitable for resale
- Record testing results accurately
- Follow procedures for removing unsafe items
- Work alongside staff and volunteers across our retail sites
Locations include various shops across York, Clifton Moor (Donation Centre & e-commerce), Selby, Malton, Pocklington and Easingwold.

What skills and qualities will I need?
- PAT testing qualification (nationally recognised certificate)
- Confidence following testing procedures and safety standards
- Strong attention to detail
- A practical, hands-on approach
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Professional, reliable and able to maintain confidentiality
