Role description:
IDAS's Safe Havens project offers short term accommodation in a volunteer host's home to support individuals or families who have been subjected to domestic abuse or sexual violence.
You will need a spare bedroom in your home to offer an individual or family for a stay of up to 8 weeks.
Volunteers will support the work that the specialist IDAS worker/s provide while a guest is with them.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
The ability to volunteer sensitively and constructively with vulnerable guests.
To have empathy and understanding for the situations the guest/s experience.
The ability to maintain guest confidentiality.
Good communication and listening skills.
Will there be a DBS check? Yes

Bespoke IDAS training prior to commencing the role and continued access to IDAS training programme plus being a part of our volunteer support network.
Hosting someone who has experienced domestic abuse can be incredibly rewarding. Often survivors need some time away whether this is for some respite or to enable them to consider and plan for their safer future. Hosts can play a significant part in someone’s journey by providing this safe haven.
