Role description:
The Yorkshire Philosophical Society was founded in 1822 when “philosophy” meant anything connected with science. Since 1960 our main activity has been an annual lecture programme covering everything from the Big Bang to the future of our planet and from archaeology to zoology.
We want to be much better at promoting what we do, which means effective use of social media platforms including Bluesky and Facebook. Your role would involve working with existing volunteers to plan, write and schedule social media messages about our lectures and other activities.

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
These are some of the things we're looking for. But don't worry - if you need to develop some of these skills, we'll be happy to help!
● Research skills
● Achieving results using social media (reach, follows, likes, comments etc)
● Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
● Experience of preparing work plans, including deadlines
● Working as part of a team
● Self-starter

What will the volunteer gain/benefit from:
You'll add to your skills and experience by developing, delivering and monitoring social media campaigns. You'll be welcome to attend our lectures free of charge while you're volunteering with us. And you'll be working with people who have had careers in multiple fields - something previous volunteers have said was particularly interesting!

How to get involved:
Please email our chair, David Harbourne - chair@ypsyork.org - for an informal chat. After that we'll send you a simple form to complete and ask you to prepare a small number of sample social media posts. Short-listed volunteers will be invited to meet three or four YPS trustees at our office in Museum Gardens before final decisions are reached.
