About the charity
Emerging Voices is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) founded in 2019 and registered in England with the Charity Commission (charity number 1183043). The charity aims to promote the social inclusion and realise the musical aspirations of adults with lived-experience of mental ill-health, through offering music-based opportunities. Emerging Voices has been running since 2019, and since that time has provided 1:1 instrumental lessons, open mic-nights, song-writing workshops, choir sessions and more to a growing number of adults with experience of mental ill-health in North Yorkshire. This work has made a vital impact on the lives of these individuals, as they themselves tell us. The charity has close links with Converge, an education provider for those who have used mental-health services, based at York St John University. About the treasurer role
The treasurer is a charity trustee and oversees the accounts, which are prepared by the charity’s administrator. They produce a short financial report for each board meeting based on these accounts, and advise the board on financial matters. The treasurer also leads in submitting the final annual accounts to the Charity Commission. Other general responsibilities includes attendance at bi-monthly board meetings.

As a member of a small trustee board, you will be at the heart of the decision-making process on the daily activities and running of the CIO, helping to shape the future of this young organisation. Along with the other trustees, the treasurer would be involved in discussing and overseeing all aspects of the charity, including strategy, projects, operations and governance. All trustees are responsible for ensuring that the charity is properly managed and accountable, carrying out its objects and following its constitution in accordance with the guidance of the Charity Commission.

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Preferably we are looking for somebody with professional experience in the financial sector and skills in bookkeeping. Experience of charity finances would be a particular advantage. A good trustee will be conscientious and able to problem-solve constructively as a member of the trustee team. An interest in music would be valuable, and a passion for improving the lives of adults with mental ill-health is essential.
