When are volunteers needed: When am I needed?
We are looking for someone who can volunteer either weekly or fortnightly, usually on a Thursday for around 2–3 hours.
Appointments can be arranged to suit your availability, and we also welcome volunteers who are able to support on an ad hoc basis.

Role description:
Hairdressing is one of the many services we provide to those using our services which help to promote a feeling of wellbeing. Our volunteer hairdressers find their sessions highly enjoyable and rewarding, and the patients very much appreciate the service.
What will I be doing?
You will provide gentle, practical support by:
- Offering simple hairdressing services such as washing, cutting and styling
- Supporting patients or relatives who may be unable to leave their loved one for long periods
- Providing occasional beard trimming or shaving (if you’re happy to do so)
- Styling hair for special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries
- Working alongside staff to ensure care is appropriate and safe
- Keeping brief records where needed
- Following guidance around confidentiality, infection control, safeguarding and health and safety
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
What skills and qualities will I need?
- Level 3 NVQ qualification (or equivalent) in Hairdressing
- At least one year’s recent salon experience
- Confidence working with people with life-limiting illnesses
- Sensitivity, patience and empathy
- A strong understanding of hygiene and infection control
- Good communication and listening skills
