The Recycle Project is one of York CVS’s new members. They have just taken on a premise following delays due to the pandemic. The concept of this new community interest company is around collecting waste from council waste sites around York and North Yorkshire, then sorting out the waste and reselling it. Profits made from the sale of the goods go towards funding free workshops for the community. The project aims to reduce waste and encourage people to repair and reuse where possible. The Recycle Project will also be providing volunteering opportunities ranging from sorting through the salvaged goods, to helping with running the workshops.
The project was set-up as a Community Interest Company (CIC) and has used information provided by Jane Granville, York CVS Funding and Development Officer, who has provided start-up advice, guidance on policies and procedures and opportunities for potentially going accredited in the future with their classes and workshops.

Annie, Director of the Recycle Project:
“We sometimes have more stock than we need and would really like to help find places to re-home it, for a reduced rate or free where possible. We hope to work alongside charities that may need small item furniture for individuals moving into their own place or just starting out and receiving support, that sort of thing.
We also have classroom space for hire which he hope to be occupied by other organisations for a number of things. We are open to hearing from you if you think you would like to use our space for something.”

Free Workshops
The free workshops are available to book now and are listed on The Recycle Project’s website along with lots more information about the project. They will also be releasing a monthly newsletter for people to keep up to date with their journey.
