As well as highlighting challenges faced by the city and the legacy of Covid-19, the report puts forward a number of key recommendations. Poverty is highlighted as an aligned concern within the report, so we’re pleased to welcome Ali Bodley and Gary Everett to the York CVS team. Ali and Gary have been appointed to coordinate the newly established Poverty Truth Commission here in York.

A poverty Truth Commission aims to bring people with lived experience of poverty and civic leaders together, with the aim of building relationships, understanding and creating change. Ali and Gary have a busy couple of weeks meeting with other Commissions around the country and lots of interesting people who will be able to help establish something here in York to make a difference to those experiencing poverty in our city. We’ll be sharing more about their work on our website and social media soon and in future editions of Voluntary Voice.
