Connecting Small Charities - Monday 20th to Friday 24th June 2022

This week is Small Charity Week (20 – 24 June) which provides an opportunity to connect, celebrate and showcase the amazing work and the contribution small chairites make across the UK.

Here at York CVS, we are dedicated to supporting and championing York’s voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to make positive change, challenge issues and grow new ideas for the future in order to strengthen communities in York. We work with grassroots community groups, small charities and larger national charities based and operating in York. Here’s some of the ways we can support your small charity:

Our Funding and Development Officer, Jane Granville can provide free one-to-one support and guidance on the following topics:

  • Safeguarding
  • Identifying and developing policies and procedures
  • Training
  • Networking
  • Setting-up groups, charities and social enterprises
  • Legal structures
  • Governance issues
  • Funding – Identifying potential funding sources and developing funding bids

Training

We organise training to meet the needs of York’s VCSE sector (based on our annual training needs survey), and with thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund and the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust’s York Committee Funder Plus programme, we’re running a series of free training courses. You can book on to the following training sessions below or by visiting our dedicated webpage:

Events

We bring the VCSE sector together in York to discuss topic-specific issues that impact people living in York and the sector.

York VCSE Assembly (Health and Care in York) – In response to the introduction of Integrated Care Systems across England, which is the new approach to how health and care services will be planned and delivered, we have coordinated the creation of the York VCSE Assembly. The Assembly is an inclusive collaborative of York VCSE groups and organisations reflecting the diversity of the sector in terms of size, themes and geographic areas of delivery. The Assembly will act as the mechanism to connect the sector with service development and delivery opportunities created by the ICS and will come together for monthly meetings. Your organisation can sign-up to become a member online.

Support to recruit volunteers:

York Volunteers is York’s Volunteer Centre and we have partnered with Be Collective to bring a new dedicated online volunteering portal to York. You can add and edit your volunteering opportunities for us to promote by registering your group for free. You can also use the portal to manage your opportunities, recruitment process, Volunteers, and your group and account settings. Last year we supported an estimated 20,085 people to find local volunteering opportunities (that’s roughly 10% of York’s population!), we promoted 252 volunteering opportunities for 120 local organisations!

Support for Volunteer Managers:

York Volunteers also supports those with Volunteer management responsibilities within York’s VCSE organisations. We hold a quarterly Volunteer Management Forum which brings the sector together to discuss volunteer management and hear how others in the sector who manage volunteers are doing things. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and learn from each other’s experiences. Each quarter we focus our discussions around a theme. Themes are often chosen from discussions in, and feedback from, the previous Forum. Join the next forum on Tuesday 2 August, 12:30 – 2pm at the Priory Street Centre – book online here
