Thursday 31 August marks International Overdose Awareness Day, the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died from overdose, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.
Events are being held across York as well as free overdose prevention training for people who live or work in York and North Yorkshire.

Event Hosts: York Nalaxone Knights, York in Recovery and Changing Lives
Meet the teams, have a chat, learn about the lifesaving tool to reverse an opiate overdose, Nalaxone, which can give vital time until medical help arrives and pick up a Nalaxone kit from the York Nalaxone Knights.
Weather permitting, there will also be a remembrance tree to honour those lost; if it’s bad weather the tree will be hosted in reception at 3 Blossom St.
Overdose Awareness Training
Date & Time: Tuesday 29 August – Friday 1 September (various times). One-Hour sessions.
Location: Online, no need to book
Cost: Free
Learn all about drug overdoses. What are the risks? How can you stay safe? And what can friends, family, and professionals do to help? This session will provide some of the answers, as well as exploring why record numbers are dying from drugs in the UK today.
Plus, on Thursday 31 August – National Overdose Awareness Day – for an extended session to hear Emma’s story of experiencing an overdose and her life being saved by Naloxone. Developed by experts at North Yorkshire Horizons and York Drug and Alcohol Service.
