The York Mental Health Hub has entered its second month of opening, with planning underway to open two more hubs in Autumn/Winter 2024. This comes following months of planning and will bring with it many benefits, both for organisations across York, as well as the general public.
Phased opening and referrals
As part of a phased approach, agreed by the Joint Delivery Board, the hub team are working with a small number of people, referred by the York Access team in TEWV. The hub team have identified an initial 28 people from the waiting list. Welcome conversations have taken place for most of the individuals identified and they have started to meet with the team for support. The hub team are now working with the Access team to identify a second group of people who can be introduced to the hub.
The next phase of the plan will include discussions with Adult Social Care and First Contact Mental Health teams to establish how referrals can be made to the hub team. Until the recording system is established, and integration with 30 Clarence Street has been progressed, the team continue to take a phased approach to opening and referrals.
*30 Clarence Street will be closed every Tuesday, from Tuesday 16 July*
Location and a whole team approach
Work has taken place with individuals that use the space and recovery service at 30 Clarence Street. The hub team, alongside their existing support networks, will support them during the transition from the recovery service to the hub model at 30 Clarence Street. The team have identified 17 individuals that require further support and have started to contact them.
A group session, facilitated by the group peer supporter, will be offered to ensure they have a dedicated space for support. This will be accompanied by a letter discussing the details of the transition which will be circulated widely, and the team and coproduction champion will be available to support with any questions.
The hub team and operational managers will engage with trauma informed training over the next few weeks.
Governance Structure
The hub governance structure was finalised in the last Joint Delivery Board meeting and continues to be updated to align with the developments of the hub.

The terms of reference have also been updated to ensure robust arrangements for decision making. We are delighted that Alyson Scott, York Mind, has agreed to chair the Joint Delivery Group moving forward and are grateful to Brian Cranna for chairing up to this point. We continue to seek a co-chair.
Systems
Work continues to support the hub teams’ access to Cito as a central recording system, and we are on course for completion by the end of July. A patient facing platform, Patients Know Best (PKB), has been successfully implemented by the hub team who have been actively recording on the system over the past month. The team attended a system review meeting with PKB.
At present, the hub is not open to referrals outside of those identified with Access and 30 Clarence Street so please continue to use your usual referral and support pathways. We will continue to provide regular updates as to the progress of the phased plan of delivery which will be further developed in the coming weeks and circulated as appropriate.
