The Brelms Trust is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), originally set up as a Charitable Trust in 2007, offering grants to a wide variety of charities operating in the community. Funding is given exclusively to charities based in Yorkshire and directly benefitting only Yorkshire communities.
Priority in our grant giving is given to charities working at the heart of communities to tackle disadvantage and to provide sustainable benefit to the community. Applications are welcomed from a diversity of charitable organisations and can cover staff salaries, volunteer expenses and running costs, as well as direct service provision.
Who can apply
- Organisations with charitable status and MUST be registered with the Charity Commission.
- Charities based and embedded in Yorkshire with direct benefit to Yorkshire communities. We may fund projects run by national charities ONLY if the project is specifically benefitting the Yorkshire Community, and with clear evidence of embedded local management by a board of Trustees and local control of financial budgets and grants, usually evidenced by a set of published Financial Accounts. Yorkshire branches and offices of charities controlled by a Head Office outside Yorkshire are unlikely to be successful.
- Core costs and specific projects for small and medium-sized charities with a current annual income of less than £300,000, and usually with unrestricted reserves of 6 months or less.
- Charities enabling disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community, which may enhance their quality of life and extend their opportunities.
