Safeguarding Adults Week 2024 will take place from Monday 18 – Friday 22 November 2024. The core theme for the 2024 week is “Working in Partnership”. During this week, organisations will explore different safeguarding themes to establish safer cultures within workplaces and communities.

All sessions delivered live by the DBS Regional Adviser for Yorkshire & The Humber are 100% free, are delivered virtually and are live with opportunity for real-time Q&A.

DBS Overview; ‘who we are and what we do’, workshop for Safeguarding Adults Week 2024

Free Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) workshop open to all organisations and groups, this session will outline the role of the Disclosure and Barring Service;

  • Understanding DBS checks and role eligibility, including levels of check and workforce
  • How “regulated activity” with children and adults is defined and what this means in practice.
  • An organisation’s duties and responsibilities in regards to referring to the DBS.
  • Understand the DBS barring process and the consequences of being placed on one or both barred lists.
  •  How to get support from DBS.

Free DBS workshop open to all groups and organisations, this DBS checks and eligibility session will focus on the different types and levels of DBS check available, when a check can be applied for and what information may be disclosed on a DBS certificate.

Key content explored will include:

• The role of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) within safer recruitment and employment

• DBS checks; available types, levels and ‘workforce’

• What Regulated Activity is

• Regulated Activity provider obligations to refer a staff member or volunteer to DBS when there are safeguarding concerns

Free Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) workshop open to all groups and organisations, the Barring and Legal Duty to Refer session will provide insight and guidance into the DBS Barring functions and when an organisation must by law refer a staff member or volunteer to DBS following safeguarding concerns.

Key items that will be covered include:

• how DBS and organisations can work together to safeguard vulnerable groups

• what ‘Regulated Activity’ is

• when a DBS barring referral should be made, including when the legal duty is met

• the three different referral routes

• how to make a good quality referral

• the consequences of not making appropriate barring referrals

• the consequences of being included on one or both Barred Lists
