Role description:
IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Service) is seeking a volunteer to assist our teams with the administration, delivery and coordination of the IDAS group work programmes, within the ISVA team, which are held either in person or online.   

The role within the ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) Team can also include making support calls to clients providing ongoing emotional support for clients. Volunteers can support survivors who are managing their lives beyond abuse, developing resilience and coping strategies.

We are looking for someone who is empathetic, non-judgemental and demonstrate confidence in speaking professionally in a group setting.  The role requires an individual who understands the importance of a trauma-informed approach and can maintain professional boundaries when discussing sensitive and emotional topics.  

Please note, due to the nature of Group programmes, there may be discussions which could have an emotional impact on the volunteer facilitators; please carefully consider whether this is a suitable role for you. We place premium importance on the well-being of our clients and volunteers.  

The role offers the opportunity to volunteer within a specialist charity doing vital work to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. We offer thorough and on-going training to our volunteers and additional shadowing of our Practitioners. Full training and shadowing of the Group Coordinator will be provided. The volunteers will be working closely with the Group Coordinator to achieve the agreed goals. 

Volunteer tasks: 

Administration: 

 preparatory paperwork and email correspondence 

Organising waiting lists  

Inputting client notes onto case management system  

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) adherence  

Attendance to weekly sessions 

One-to-one support of clients needing extra emotional support  

Support Group Coordinator in sessions  

Follow up calls/emails to any clients needing sign posting to other agencies 

We are ideally looking for volunteers who can dedicate 4 hours per week. 

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Volunteer will have:  

A high standard of communication skills, compassion, respect and understanding 

A strong commitment to and understanding of confidentiality 

Basic IT and Organisational skills 

An understanding of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence is desirable 

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance is essential (can be provided by IDAS).
