On the 5 and 6 July, York’s Homestead Park will transform into a free two-day festival. The event is in partnership with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation in line with their mission ‘to support and speed up the transition to a more equitable and just future, free from poverty, where people and planet can flourish’.
Homestead Park Festival will serve as a vibrant portal into alternative futures – a unique gathering for York’s community to engage in workshops, music, and discussions that empower positive change during this pivotal moment we find ourselves in. Wild Rumpus are seeking passionate local artists, makers, and changemakers to host inspiring workshops and help bring this vision to life.
Drawing on the Rowntrees’ radical roots as changemakers, the festival programme will be packed with demonstrations from York and further afield which will show that a better world is possible. The festival will draw on the origins of the term ‘Homesteading’ – a place to be in harmony with the land, honoring its offerings and giving back generously, sharing its resources.
The Opportunity
The serach is on for York-based creatives, musicians, makers and doers, fellow journey folk, and specifically workshop facilitators. This call out is for the people who are – in many different ways – already doing the work to make their communities stronger, more resilient and more beautiful. If this sounds like you, they want to hear from you. Hoping to reach those who:
-
Are interested in getting involved with the festival as part of the programme (for example, by running a workshop)
-
Would like to attend the festival to see changemaking in action
-
Are interested in the work and would like to connect with Homestead Park and the wider work of JRF’s Emerging Futures
They are interested in hearing from a wide range of people. Perhaps you are a printer, poet, theatre-maker or musician, perhaps you run a food co-op, repair cafe, print workshops or cycle repair station. Maybe you grow vegetables, protect local birdlife, advocate for river rights or conduct soil sampling. If you are working towards building stronger communities, a healthier planet and a more hopeful future, we would love to hear about it.
Can’t make the date? Please still send an expression of interest, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation are keen to connect with practitioners who are also journeying towards building a more fair and flourishing future for people and planet.
