In 2025, local climate action group Planet South Bank published a powerful anthology of community writing, artwork and poetry titled ‘How We Made It Through’. This inspiring collection was created through a unique project that invited participants to write from the future – imagining how communities had overcome the social and environmental challenges ahead, with both pragmatism and hope.

Supported by a grant from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the anthology is available in print and as a free download. The work showcases a diverse range of creative voices reflecting on climate, community, resilience and change.

The project has deep roots in Planet South Bank’s vision of “a more resilient community, a more resourceful community, and a more connected community.”

They would love to hear from others in York who have read How We Made It Through or feel inspired to try something similar in their community or group. Could this kind of creative exploration work in your setting?
