Role description:
The Heworth Moor House Trust is looking for Trustees to join its board and play a practical and active role in helping families in need.
We are looking for caring, committed individuals who want to make a positive difference in their community and are prepared to volunteer a few hours of their time each month.
We are a small York-based independent charity that provides grants to purchase household goods to parents / guardians of children who live in the city of York, the eastern part of North Yorkshire and most of the East Riding of Yorkshire. Further information can be found on the Charity Commission website and/or our website: https://www.hmhtrust.org.uk
Our core purpose is to support children by providing practical support to their families.
We make a positive and practical contribution to their wellbeing by providing funds to purchase one-off items such as cookers, washing machines, carpets, and beds.
From a substantial professionally managed permanent endowment fund, we can award around £24,000 worth of grants per year. The Trustees share the responsibility for awarding the grants (approximately £250 each) after individual assessment of each written application that is received.

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
We are looking for caring, committed individuals from any background who can bring their time, support and knowledge to the Trust.
Any previous knowledge or experience within social welfare, the charity sector, finance or IT would be an asset, however we wish to actively encourage anyone to apply who feels they can bring something of value to the role.
Trustees meet 4 times a year, for approx. 2 hours.
Every 2 years trustees work in a small team to decide on applications, and report back to other trustees.
There is also the opportunity to participate in additional projects or research as interest / time allows.
