Role description:
Role Purpose
To promote the activities of York Musical Theatre Company to its members, musical theatre patrons & supporters and the wider public in York, making them aware of the opportunities to become involved in the organisation’s activities on-stage, off-stage and our theatre performances. This is a flexible role and can be undertaken from anywhere, as long as you have access to good internet connection or mobile data and possession of a mobile phone, iPad, laptop or computer. This could be a positive and productive way of passing the time at home, in a café, or on public transport for example. This makes the role inclusive and accessible for all. With your help we can promote a greater awareness of the pleasure musical theatre can offer to individuals and enable them to enjoy it through participation and/or visiting local theatre(s).
Task and activities
• Become familiar with York Musical Theatre Company’s activities.
• Follow our social media platforms to think of ways to raise York Musical Theatre Company’s profile and show the positive opportunities we have for people in York.
• Support and develop our social media platforms.
• Reach our members and the wider public to achieve this, developing Facebook and Instagram feeds. Promoting our shows to generate ticket sales.
• Work alongside the other volunteers to gather and collate content.
• Attend some rehearsals and performances and with consent capture new footage in the form of photos, videos, quotes, statements for example, to post on the York Musical Theatre Company social media platforms.
• Create posters to post on our social media platforms of productions.
• Create social media content following the brand guidelines.
• Track the effectiveness of the social media posts and think of new ways of promoting York Musical Theatre Company online.
• Talk to cast members and the production team about their experiences in order to create storytelling content.
• Follow consent and confidentiality policies.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Social media volunteers will be friendly, approachable and tech savvy. They will respect views, values and cultures that are different to their own. Strong IT skills are a necessity alongside good knowledge and practical experience of using social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and LinkedIn. Good written skills, accuracy and attention to detail are essential attributes.
