Lived Insights is delighted to announce a new commission from City of York Council, made possible by Government homelessness funding for the charitable sector, marking the start of an important research project focused on housing resettlement, with planning now underway.

Building on its 2022 community research – engaging more than 100 people with lived experience of resettlement services – the project will revisit York’s housing resettlement pathway to assess its progress and current impact.

Using a co-designed, community-led approach, Lived Insights will work alongside people who have experienced homelessness to evaluate access, effectiveness and outcomes across the pathway.

Hearing directly from people with lived experience offers first-hand insight into how support systems can help people transition out of homelessness, as well as where those systems can fall short.

The project aims to ensure that people with direct experience of homelessness play a leading role in shaping resettlement services and influencing local policy. Findings will inform future decision-making and strengthen support for people experiencing homelessness across York.

Call for Community Researchers

As part of this project, Lived Insights is recruiting up to six Community Researchers to join the team. This is a project-based role, with a bursary and expenses covered, open to people with lived experience of the housing resettlement pathway, whether currently navigating it or having done so recently.

Applications are also welcomed from those with a strong interest in the issue, including people who have experienced housing instability.

Community Researchers will play a vital role in carrying out research and capturing lived experiences of homelessness resettlement – exploring access, effectiveness, economic inequality, employability and policy to help ensure services better meet the needs of those who use them.

Lived Insights welcomes the opportunity to work with new voices and learn from the community about what works well and what needs to change.

About Lived Insights

Lived Insights started in 2023 as a Community Interest Company (CIC). It was founded by people who have experienced homelessness and want to use their experiences and insights to make a difference.

Often, support services are made without listening to the people they are meant to help – and we want to change that. We believe that by putting lived experience at the centre of decision-making, we can build fairer, more caring support systems.

We work closely with people who have lived experience of homelessness, addiction, mental ill health and the criminal justice system. Through research and our weekly Community Research Café, we bring people, community groups and public services together to shape better policies and services.
