Make It York is inviting local groups, charities and organisations to adopt a sculpture and develop a unique, eye-catching design for a new city-wide trail running from 29 June to 31 August 2026. This is an opportunity to showcase your creativity while celebrating the positive impact your organisation has for the people of York.

The trail will feature 10 stone guardian sculptures, created by a mix of artists, community groups, charities and students, coming together to form a carefully curated and intimate trail across the city.

As visitors explore York, they will encounter a series of stone guardians, each symbolically linked to the location where it stands. Guardians may include The Timekeeper, The Archivist, The Gardener of the Walls, The Merchant and The River Watcher.

Make It York are particularly inviting proposals for one guardian in particular: The City Guardian – guardian of the city’s heart, keeping watch over every corner. If you have an alternative guardian concept that reflects your organisation’s work or presents a strong creative idea, they are also open to other proposals.
