New funding: Trailblazer Community Grants now open for applications

Voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations in York and North Yorkshire can now apply for Trailblazer Community Grants, with funding available from £10,000 to £25,000.

The funding supports projects aimed at engaging economically inactive adults, helping them build confidence, develop skills and move closer to employment.

Projects must target at least one of the following priority groups:

  • Young people aged 16–24 (especially those at risk of becoming inactive or NEET)

  • Adults aged 50–64

  • People experiencing long-term sickness

  • Inactive communities in rural and coastal areas

What can be funded?

Projects could include (please see Better Connect guidance for full accurate information) :

  • Confidence building, job search support or social inclusion activities

  • Work experience and volunteering opportunities

  • Training or one-to-one guidance

  • Digital, numeracy, literacy, or life skills development

  • Creative or environmental workshops

  • Activities that encourage wider engagement with local services or programmes

Who can apply?

You must be a VCSE organisation, parish or town council delivering services in York or North Yorkshire, with fewer than 20 full-time staff and a turnover under £1 million. Other eligibility criteria apply – full details can be found here.
