York CVS is hosting a free training session to help Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations better understand property law and the legal considerations involved in owning, leasing, or using property.
Property law for the VCSE sector will take place on Tuesday 17 November, 10:00am–12:00pm at Priory Street Centre, with registration from 9:30am.
The session will be delivered by Philip Lewes-Ogden, corporate and commercial solicitor at SJP Law, who has more than 30 years of legal experience and significant experience advising charities, not-for-profit and voluntary organisations.
What will the training cover?
The session will explore a range of property law topics relevant to VCSE organisations, including:
- leases
- licences to occupy
- renting rooms
- security of tenure
- Community Asset Transfer
- legal structures for owning or leasing property.
Philip will give a presentation followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions. From 11:00am–12:00pm, there will also be an opportunity for one-to-one conversations.
Philip and his team have experience supporting charities and community organisations with matters including Village Hall CIO conversions, lease and room rental agreements, charity set-up, trustee appointments and resignations, and building projects for social housing and community hubs.
Who can attend?
The training is free, funded by SJP Law and York CVS.
It is open to Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise organisations based and operating in the City of York, including York Outer, or organisations with beneficiaries in York.
Due to high demand, places are limited to two people per VCSE organisation.
If you book a place and are subsequently unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so the place can be offered to another delegate. A substitute from your organisation can attend in your place.
