Health check for VCSE Organisations

The purpose of this Organisational Health Check is to help you to look at all aspects of your organisation and to understand what areas need most attention. You may be doing this because:

• You are a new organisation and you want to get everything set up properly.
• Your organisation is considering or is in receipt of new grant funding.
• Your organisation is having some difficulties with a particular issue.
• Your organisation is making some changes to how it runs, or is expanding or reducing what it does.
• You just want to make sure that everything is as it should be.

The ‘Health Check’ is not something that you ‘pass’ or ‘fail’. It can help tell you about your organisation’s strengths and weaknesses.

It can be with one person or two or three, as sometimes people will have different views about how the organisation is doing.

If it is helpful we could look at your governing document (also sometimes called a constitution Memorandum and Articles, terms of reference, or rules); and your most recent Annual Report and financial accounts.

The Health Check is part of the free information and advice service offered to voluntary and community organisations by York CVS. Some of the support your organisation needs can come from York CVS for example training, funding or policies. You can seek support elsewhere and York CVS can help with signposting to other contacts.
