It may sound simple, and it certainly can be, but some of us don’t know where to start when it comes to scanning a QR code.

What is a QR code?

A QR code is an image made up of pixels (squares) that looks a little bit like a bar code. When you scan the QR code, it will trigger something to happen, usually opening a website, but it can also be scanned to make a phone call, send an email and other actions. It can be a much quicker and simpler way to load something like a website than to type a long line of text.

How do I scan a QR code?

There are a few ways to do this, but simply open the camera app on your smartphone and hover over the QR code (without taking a photo). This will activate a prompt, such as a website link popping up. The next thing is to select the prompt that will load a website or action that is embedded in the QR code.

And that’s it! You are now equipped to scan away.

Where will I find a QR code?

QR codes can be found in my places for example on a poster, business card, advertisements and more. Usually when you see a QR code it will also include information to let you know what it is for.

Why should I scan a QR code?

QR codes are a quick and easy way to access information. For example, typing a website can be tricky and time-consuming; scanning the QR code reduces the time.

How do I create a QR code?

There are many websites you can use to create a QR code. We use the QR Code Generator at York CVS, and love reporting tools. However, there are many other generators out there (just search for QR code generators).
