This summer, residents, neighbourhood groups and local organisations are being invited to create community events that celebrate York, strengthen local connections and bring people together.

Led by City of York CouncilMake It York and city partners, the initiative offers support to help turn your ideas into reality.

A community event could include:

  • Street parties and picnics
  • Music, arts or craft sessions
  • Sports days or family games
  • Nature walks or gardening days
  • Cultural celebrations
  • Book swaps, repair cafés or skill‑sharing workshops

Help and guidance available to aid with:

  • Event planning and safety
  • Insurance requirements
  • How to promote your event
  • Toolkits for running inclusive, accessible events
  • Access to funding to support your event planning.

Organisers can access guidance on event planning, insurance and safety, promotional support, inclusive event toolkits and funding to help get events off the ground. No previous experience is needed – just an idea that brings people together.
