We are able to offer Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh volunteer placements for ages 14 and above in all our shops. This is a great way to gain experience in customer service and a retail environment.

We have 9 shops across York:
Acomb clothes: 9 Regents Buildings, Acomb. YO24 4LT

Broadway: 50 Broadway, Fulford. YO10 4JX
Colliergate (city centre): 20 Colliergate. YO1 8BN

When are volunteers needed: Our shops are open Monday – Saturday 9am – 4pm.

Duke of Edinburgh shifts take place on Saturdays, are for a minimum of 2 hours and require a weekly commitment of at least three months.

Role description:
We have a variety of roles within the shop and will help find a role that suits you whether you want to be customer facing or would rather help out behind the scenes!

Some examples of the types of things you could help with:

* Sorting and pricing clothing, bric-a-brac, books, toys, and other donated items ready for sale
* Serving customers on the shop floor
* Accepting donations from the public and promoting the Gift Aid scheme
* Helping create displays on the shop floor
* Helping to research specialist items for our shop and eBay department

Support and Supervision

Volunteers will be supervised by the Shop or Donation Centre Manager and Staff, supported by the wider Retail Team. The Volunteer Services Team will help guide you through the application and induction process and be your point of contact for general enquiries about volunteering.

Training

Volunteers who are 16 or over and will be with us for more than 3 months are required to complete mandatory training modules which are usually delivered via our online platform.

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
* Positive attitude and ability to provide great customer service
* Full training will be provided so a willingness to learn new skills or bring your own skills and knowledge to the role
* Ability to work under the instruction of the manager and work as part of a team of volunteers
* Ability to maintain confidentiality
