Role description:
Volunteers and clients are carefully matched, taking into account interests, skills, availability and geographical location. Home Visitors can carry out a variety of tasks: visiting at the client’s home for a chat, opening and reading correspondence or going out to help with non-food shopping or for a social activity. Home Visitors cannot carry out personal care, help with food shopping or doing shopping for clients, help with finances, cleaning or doing household tasks.

What will the volunteer gain/benefit from:
MySight York befrienders have shared that their wellbeing has increased through the meaningful connections they build with clients, as well as through experiencing first‑hand the positive impact of regular visits and conversation. Volunteers consistently report feeling well supported in their roles, with access to high‑quality training opportunities and regular chances to connect with fellow volunteers through monthly social events. This support not only enhances the volunteer experience but also contributes to a wider culture of kindness, care, and mutual support for everyone involved.
