Role description:
We are looking for volunteers to support our day services across the York area. Day services offer a range of activities for people with dementia, including games, crafts, music and quizzes. We offer a range of group and one-to-one activity. Volunteers support the two members of staff running the group to ensure everyone can access the activity and feels engaged and supported during the day. Volunteers also help with set up and clearing away at the end of the day. Some volunteers do a full day, while others choose to do a morning or afternoon.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Experience of dementia or an understanding of how to support people is beneficial, but is not essential. Dementia Awareness training will be provided. The most important skills are communication and people skills. We are looking for caring, fun-loving people who can help us to create a happy, positive atmosphere at the hub.
