Role description:
Sitting and Befriending Volunteers provide companionship and social support to individuals who may be experiencing loneliness, isolation, or limited social contact. Through regular visits, conversation, and shared activities, volunteers help improve wellbeing, promote independence, and offer carers valuable respite.
Key Responsibilities
Visit clients in their home or agreed community setting on a regular basis.
Provide friendly conversation, companionship, and emotional support.
Engage clients in activities such as chatting, reading, playing games, listening to music, or enjoying a walk where appropriate.
Encourage social interaction and help build confidence and wellbeing.
Offer carers short periods of respite by staying with the person they care for.
Respect each client's dignity, independence, choices, and cultural background.
Maintain professional boundaries and treat all information confidentially.
Report any concerns about a client's wellbeing, safety, or safeguarding to the appropriate staff member.
Keep simple records of visits where required.
Follow organisational policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and lone working procedures.
