City-centre performances across four stations. Approx. 9am–6pm.
(Doing both dates is ideal, but one is possible.)

Special evening performances in Shambles Market. Approx. 5.30pm–11pm.
(Again, both dates preferred but not essential.)

Role description:
The York Mystery Plays return in 2026, bringing the city’s medieval waggon plays back to the streets. Plays are performed on waggons that travel between four locations in the city centre, in a world-famous outdoor theatre experience for audiences of all ages.
Role description
Station Masters are the lead volunteers at each performance point. You’ll help keep everything running smoothly, safely and on time by:
• Welcoming audiences and supporting a positive atmosphere
• Coordinating waggon arrivals, performances, and departures
• Guiding and supporting other volunteers on site
• Staying in touch with Event Control and reporting any issues
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
This role is great for people who are:
• Calm, organised, and confident talking to others
• Comfortable taking responsibility in a busy public setting
• Happy working with performers, volunteers, and audiences
• Able to attend training and commit to the event days
Experience in events or team leadership is helpful but not required.

Walking the routes and stations

Understanding site specific safety procedures.
Safeguarding and event safety will also be covered.
