Role description:
Our outward-bound group, Time Out Together, is an activity-based group for people living with young onset dementia in the York area. The group is designed to give younger people with dementia the opportunity to keep active, enjoy hobbies and engage with and explore their local community. Volunteers join the staff to ensure that everyone has a good day out, while keeping safe and feeling well supported. The emphasis is on 'doing with' rather than 'doing for'.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
There is a level of physical activity needed to volunteer for the group, as they are often out walking or doing low-impact sports, such as croquet and table-tennis. Volunteers need to have good communication skills and be able to react to different situations. They need to be team players in order to work with staff to keep people safe. While it is not essential that a volunteer drives, they will need to be able to get to the meeting at a Park & Ride in York.
