This week York Environment Week (YEW) host their fourth annual citywide festival! Their aim is to showcase and celebrate the active environment groups in York.

During the week the city is open to a wide range of environment focused activities which are free and open to everyone.

YEW is an annual city-wide festival aimed at showcasing and celebrating the work of environment groups active in York. It offers groups and organisations the opportunity to work together to promote environmental activity. The programme is for anyone who cares about tackling climate change, increasing biodiversity and making the city more sustainable, offering opportunities to connect and get involved.

Over 60 events across the week, we highlight just a few of the events happening across York:

Get to grips with Climate Science: Climate Fresk workshop
The Climate Fresk turns climate science into a team game, where they work together to connect the causes, mechanisms and effects of the climate crisis, and what we can do about it.

Taking Learning Outdoors

Calling all teachers and educators! Outdoor learning provides interesting and challenging opportunities for pupils to experiment and engage with curriculum topics and can help to develop a wide range of skills including problem solving, communication, learn how to engage. This short CPD session explores ways to take the national curriculum outdoors, offering activities and ideas to get started.

Energy efficiency and renewable energy experts from York Based Green Building Renewables and local residents who have installed technologies like solar panels and heat pumps share their knowledge and expertise on how you can improve your homes energy efficiency.

Green Business Forum

The Green Business Forum will support York’s local businesses to become more sustainable, increase profitability and help York reach net zero by 2030. At the first event, businesses will gain an understanding of their energy bills and how to reduce their energy consumption, hearing from other businesses and industry experts.
