On the evening of 23 April a siren-like alert will be sent to smartphone users across the UK to test a new Government warning system. Please advise those who may have a secret phone, which they use for personal safety reasons, to switch it off or put it on airplane mode. You can also opt-out of emergency alerts, but the Government advises you should keep them switched on.
To opt out:
Search your settings for ‘emergency alerts’
Turn off ‘severe alerts’ and ‘extreme alerts’
If you still get alerts, contact your device manufacturer for help
