On the 6th December, we came together to answer York Health and Care’s one BIG question – What helps you live a happy and healthy life?

There are changes coming in 2022 to the way health and care work in York is structured. We are moving towards an integrated care system, and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will be replaced by an Integrated Care Partnership (ICP). As a part of this, a very broad conversation is beginning to help shape how this will look in the future. This conversation is for everyone, and all input is welcome

In this meeting we talked together and explored questions in relation to ourselves as individuals, and as residents of York.

We fed back on :

  • how the changes to ways of working were going
  • what helps us live a happy and healthy life in general
  • what improves our lives within York’s care systems, communities and within the city itself
  • what could be improved
  • what is already working well

You can read the full notes, here or see a copy of what was gathered on our Jamboard, here.

A quick summary of feedback gathered:

What helps you live a happy and healthy life?

  • support – having help from local people, family and friends
  • purpose – having something to do every day
  • space – having places to go and knowing where is available nearby
  • money – having enough money to stay healthy, afford healthcare, food, housing and live well
  • safety  – feeling free from fear

What isn’t working in York right now?

  • Getting in to the city – accessibility issues for those with disabilities and the cost of transport
  • More needed once you’re in the centre – toilets and seating
  • Cost of accommodation is too high
  • Waiting times for GPs is too long and those waiting for help are left feeling alone
  • Better signposting towards help in the city
  • Lack of simple communication about what is improving or getting worse (key indicators of poverty)
  • Connecting things up – the poverty agenda needs to be linked in to the health agenda because one drives the other

Do you have more to add?

Please use this Jamboard to tell us what you think (just add text or sticky notes), or send an email to comms@yorkcvs.org.uk to let us know your thoughts.
