York Disability Week, 29th Nov to 6th Dec

Promoting an Equal, Inclusive and Accessible York

Back for its ninth year, York Disability Week programme offers over 30 in-person & online activities running from 29th November to 6th December with a few events in the preceding week. Mostly free, events range from sports activities to exhibitions and talks, with opportunities to create, learn and connect.

Try out wheelchair rugby, accessible football, tennis, dance lessons, gym, or rambling, and more! Free taster sessions offer the option to keep attending afterwards. If you’re looking to make friends, find a new hobby or try something new, this could be for you!

If creativity is more your style, try a singing and signing choir, the ‘Not a Book Club’ group, woodworking, or creative workshops to learn self-advocacy skills.

Get information at drop-in sessions on your rights as a carer or to hear about Direct Payments, meet other disabled people, including parents, socially, attend our Information Fair with statutory and voluntary organisations, or learn about opportunities for people with Parkinson’s.

Talks and discussions include disability advocate and theatre director, Stephen Unwin, on learning disabilities; digital technology’s successes and challenges; mental health stories; eugenics past, present and future; energy limiting conditions. With exhibitions and prize giving for an international art competition, there’s much to see all week!

Whether disabled yourself, a family member, PA or carer, a business keen to become more accessible, or just interested in learning more and meeting new people, York Disability Week has something for everyone.

By participating, you’ll be joining a movement to foster a more inclusive York, extend your learning or simply have fun!
