Freelance Advisers

Is it time for a new challenge? We have a roster of freelance advisers who work with us on an occasional basis and are looking for extra advisers to join us! We will be holding a drop-in for interested advisers 9-11am on Wednesday 3 June 2026 and would love to meet you there – register by 29 May 2026.

We are recruiting freelance advisers to work on our second-tier welfare benefits Advice Line (telephone and email). The Advice Line is available from 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4:30pm on Friday. Freelancers are normally based in our York office, working either 9am to 1pm or 1pm to 5pm.

We receive a wide range of interesting queries – some quite straightforward and others needing more research, information and guidance. The team here will support you during your sessions and we usually talk through more complex cases to ensure that we give as full a response as possible.

Our current freelancer Sarah says “freelancing for WBU is flexible, varied and challenging. I’ve always felt supported and valued by the team and managers who are professional and above all friendly.”

The Welfare Benefits Unit is a Disability Confident Committed Employer. We are committed to encouraging equality, diversity, and inclusion.
